To me, this little guy has always been a manifestation of how I see myself on the inside. He’s a reflection of my confidence, my surrealist sensibilities, my nostalgic and outré personality, and most importantly, my imagination — a self portrait and a visual story of how art has always been a shelter from the more unpleasant aspects of my life. (represented by the umbrella that protects him from rain)

I’d like to think that, as he has grown and developed, so have I, as a man, and as an artist. ▲✒☁ ☂

Suggested listening: Karen O and The Kids - Hideaway

…that song really inspired this piece.

“It may be hard for an egg to turn into a bird. It would be a jolly sight harder for it to learn to fly while remaining an egg. We are like eggs at present. And you cannot go on indefinitely being just an ordinary, decent egg. We must be hatched or go bad!”

- C.S. Lewis

Roy Lichtenstein inspired illustration. The original sketch for this piece was drawn over 4 years ago. I always told myself I would re-do it one day, and last night, I finally did…at the expense of a good nights sleep.
